Dark Matter is a 30 minute concerto for flute and string ensemble. Inspired by the rich worlds of Black speculative fiction and the Afrofuturist imagination of the legendary Octavia Butler.

As 2026 marks twenty years since Butler's passing, this piece serves as a timely celebration of the ongoing legacy of the Black imagination. The work traverses different narratives of Black science fiction, offering these stories as a way of making new folklore and mythologies of our modern, technological society.
